Odyssey of the Mind

 It’s back to school time, and I am excited for so many things at my school, Patriot Oaks Academy! Especially, Odyssey of the Mind, my favorite afterschool club!

Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teaches students how to develop & use natural creativity to become problem solvers. We learn important skills like teamwork, time management, public speaking, and so much more! OM is an international program run by volunteers that believe inthe importance of creative problem solving & out-of-the-box thinking.

POA has had 2 teams win the regional tournament in St. Augustine and advance to the state competition in Orlando. In 2022, our 5th grade

team had placed 3rd at the state tournament. In 2023, the 6th grade team had placed 5th at states and the 4th grade team placed 6th at states .

during a problem, someone might get flustered or overwhelmed because it gets difficult. In OM, we learn how to calm down others and yourself. Also, our coaches, Liz and Carrie, are very patient and help us wheneverwe come across an obstacle. They’re amazing and the best!

Lastly, you get to work on your acting skills. When competition comes near, we have to create a skit with a set, costumes, props, and dialogue. During rehearsal, we have to show expressions and feelings, which I love doing! If you ever want to help volunteer for the POA team, you can always contact the front desk at the POA front office.
